This past weekend on Saturday, September 17, DFCU teamed up with our community at the Relay for Life for the cities of Bellflower, Downey, Norwalk, and Paramount to join the fight against cancer. With the support of our incredible members, DFCU was able to raise a grand total of $$1,117.89 to donate towards groundbreaking cancer research and to support patient care.
This morning, DFCU met with the Downey Police and Fire Chiefs to present a donation towards the Downey Police and Fire Foundation. The Downey Police and Fire Foundation (DPFF) is a local non-profit organization that provides support to police and fire families during times of financial hardship and medical need. Thanks to our incredible members, we were able to raise a total of $1,000 through our DPFF Debit Card Program. DFCU would like to thank everyone who donated to our Summer Food Drive! Thanks to the help of our members and our staff, we were able to provide PTA Helps with many boxes of food.
PTA Helps is a local volunteer-run organization that provides Downey Unified School District families and students in need with food and other household essentials. On Saturday July 30th, DFCU's Local Business Festival made its return for the second year in a row! We invited our members who are small business owners to come out and sell their products. There was delicious barbeque, ice cream, candles, handmade jewelry, baked goods, adult and children's clothing an accessories, and so much more. Thank you to our incredible vendors and everyone who came out to shop local. We can't wait for the next one!
DFCU and the Berenstain Bear family had a blast kicking off the Summer Reading Program with the Downey City Library. Brother and Sister Bear gave away some free books to the children and families in attendance. From arts and crafts to a free magic show, there is no better way to kick off summer vacation!
DFCU believes that it is never too late or never too early to learn the importance of financial literacy! To help promote financial literacy for youth, we have been visiting classrooms to host our Money Smart Jr. workshop for students in the third to fifth grade. Money Smart Jr. challenges students to make "money smart" decisions, while facing unexpected surprises, like credit card bills and extra surprise charges.

This weekend, the DFCU Team celebrated the day away with our friends at Lynwood for the Children With Special Needs Celebration. We danced, gave away some goodies, and had an amazing time!
